Howard John McCarthy Jr.

1935 - 2022

Howard J. McCarthy, Jr., 87, recently of Fredericksburg, Texas, died on Friday, August 12, 2022.

Howard was born on May 2, 1935 to Howard J. and Blanche P. (Krzyston) McCarthy, Sr. in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Howard married Patricia Poland in October, 1959.

He was a graduate of Rutgers University.

Prior to Texas, Howard and Pat called Rockford, Illinois home for 45 years, where they were parishioners and active members of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Howard was also a long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard McCarthy; his mother, Blanche and his step-father, Michael J. Gavala. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 63 years, Pat, along with their three children, Kathi of Arlington Heights, Illinois; Kelly (Mark) Hallman of Fredericksburg, Texas; Chip (Lisa) of Long Beach, California and his three grandsons, Cole, Bennett and Jude McCarthy, all of Los Angeles, California. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Karaman, of New Egypt, New Jersey and many nieces and nephews.

A public visitation begins at 12:30 p.m., rosary at 1:30 p.m. and funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., September 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Fredericksburg, Texas. A reception will follow immediately after the Mass. Howard will be interred at Fort Sam Houston Memorial Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. The family suggests in lieu of flowers for those who desire, donations to St. Jude's be made in his name.
