Joseph Nemec Obituary

Joseph Robert "Joe" Nemec, 79, peacefully passed away on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023 in Austin, Texas.

Joe was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on March 19, 1943. Growing up on a farm near Robstown, he graduated from Corpus Christi College Academy as both a baseball and football high school standout. Having thrown two no-hitters for the Cavaliers, he went to Notre Dame and pitched for the Fighting Irish baseball team, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1965.

He initially went to work as an accountant for Coopers & Lybrand in Houston, where he met Pamela Osterloh. After serving in the Coast Guard, Joe and Pam were married in 1968, the start of a 50-year partnership that lasted until her death in 2018.

In 1970, Joe began his own accounting practice as a CPA in Alice, Texas. He developed an expertise in automobile dealership accounting and taxation and began serving dealers all over Texas. These business owners became friends as well as clients. He was always respected for his dedication to serve his clients well and was never too busy to sit and talk through situations with the clients and their families.

Joe had a strong work ethic at his office and required his employees to follow his example on how to work hard and, most importantly, how to treat clients. Joe "led from the front" and never asked his employees to do anything that he was not willing to do himself.

Joe loved working, playing golf, and going back to Notre Dame for football games. He and Pam traveled both in and out of the United States. His strong Catholic faith led him to be appointed as a member of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre. He fell in love with the Hill Country, eventually buying a home near Stonewall, where he and Pam fed deer and their guineas, and enjoyed visits with their grandson, Jack.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Kim Trevey (husband John); grandson, Jack, and his siblings, Fred Nemec and Pat Nemec, along with numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Pam; his mother, Nancy; his father, Fred, and his siblings, Elizabeth, Anna, Benny, Michael, and Richard.
