November 11, 1934 - April 16, 2024 Patsy Ruth Buckner Capps, age 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Hill Country Hospital in
Fredericksburg, Texas. Born on November 11, 1934, in
Beloit, Wisconsin to Harold and Ruth Buckner, Patsy was also a loving sister to her brother Dean. Her father, a Civil Engineer during World War II was instrumental in converting many of the Navy's existing boats from steam to diesel, and installed diesel engines into the famous Higgins boats. This job led the family to relocate frequently during WWII, with Patsy changing schools often as they moved across the country. This array of experiences during her formative years gave Patsy a broad and unique perspective on life.
A proud 1955 graduate of Beloit College, and 1958 alumnus of The Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University in
Cleveland, Ohio, Patsy embarked on a fulfilling career in nursing, where she met her future husband, Julian Huntley Capps II, then a medical student. She served as a psychiatric RN at University Hospitals of Cleveland Ohio from 1958-1959, helping Jay complete medical school, and continued in the nursing field as Chief Nurse in pediatric care at Yale University Hospital in
New Haven, Connecticut from 1959-1963 during Jay's residency internship.
Patsy was a beacon of creativity and warmth, known for her exceptional caregiving and her ability to make everyone feel cherished, respected, and uplifted. After her children grew older, she channeled her creativity into her beloved fabric shop, 'The French Seam' in
Corpus Christi, Texas, where she excelled in guiding and inspiring her patrons with her unique artistic vision. Upon relocating with Jay to
Fredericksburg, Texas in 1998, she immediately became active in local issues and activities, playing in her weekly tennis clinic and bunko group into her mid 80's.
She is mourned and celebrated by her three children, Johanna, Sarah, and Julian III, who were by her side in her final days; her six grandchildren, Johanna, Christopher, James, Charles, Julian, and Julian IV; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Patsy cherished annual summer retreats to Old Mission, Michigan with her children, extended family, and a close-knit circle of friends, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever by all who loved her there as well.
Patsy's legacy of love, creativity, and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Memorial Services will be held in Old Mission, Michigan and at the Parkway Presbyterian Church, 3707 Santa Fe in
