Walter Platte Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Egan-Ryan Funeral Service - Northwest Chapel on Jan. 27, 2026.
Walter Ralph Platte, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026. He was born on March 22, 1928, to Walter and Wilma Platte.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Wilma Platte; his sister, Rosemary Marcie; his brother, Denny Platte; and his daughters, Virginia and Katrien Platte.

Walter lived a full and industrious life, marked by dedication to both family and career. He held two successful professions, first as a Civil Engineer for Western Electric, and later as a probate attorney. He was a proud graduate of Case Western Reserve University and Capital University Law School. Through his hard work and long hours, Walter faithfully supported his nine children and instilled in them the values of perseverance and responsibility.

Beyond his professional life, Walter embraced his passions with enthusiasm. He loved gardening, chess, volleyball, and tennis, remaining active in these pursuits until the age of 92. He was also famously known for launching numerous DIY home remodeling projects-many of which multiplied faster than he could finish, much to the amusement of his family.

Walter is survived by seven of his children, who live in Ohio and Florida and who lovingly supported him in his final days. Beginning with the oldest: Mark Platte (Donna), Jude Peter Platte, Nikki Henry (Glenn), Kurt Platte (Beth), Shane Platte, Rex Platte (Henney), and Heather Djafi (Brahim).

He was the proud grandfather of 24 amazing grandchildren and 17 beautiful great-grandchildren.

Friends may call, Friday, February 13, 2026 from 10-11am at Egan-Ryan Northwest Chapel, 4661 Kenny Road where a Funeral Service will begin at 11am. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 North High Street.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the John Carroll University Library in Walter's memory.

Walter Ralph Platte will be remembered for his devotion to family, his sharp mind, his tireless work ethic, and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
