Harbor Springs - Bonnie L. Lucas, 86, of Harbor Springs, Michigan, died June 28, 2021.

Bonnie was born on November 6, 1934, in Pontiac, Michigan, the daughter of Dorothy Frederick (Ostrander) and her loving grandparents, Charles and Gertrude Ostrander.

She grew up in Pontiac and attended school at Pontiac High School, graduating in 1952. She worked at GMC Truck & Coach where she met Richard Lucas.

On October 29, 1955, they were married and started their family. They were happily married for 65 years until Richard's death in April 2021 and now are reunited again.

Bonnie was active in the Birchwood Women's Association and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Harbor Springs. She enjoyed needlework, golf, and baking, especially a wide assortment of delicious Christmas cookies. For decades, she lovingly created the sweets for family and friends and knew each person's favorite. She also was an avid gardener and loved traveling the world with Richard, devouring the history of places they visited as much as the sights.

Bonnie was most proud of being a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was loved and adored by her family. She encouraged them in all their pursuits and applauded their efforts. When the internet was introduced, Bonnie never hesitated. She eagerly learned the technology and kept her family connected with emails and updates.

She is survived by her children, Steven (Annette) Lucas, Karen (Kevin) Mercer, Roger (Jennifer) Lucas and Linda Newman; grandchildren, Stephanie Lucas, Ryan Lucas, Michelle (Grant) Robison, Leslie (Josephine) Mercer-Dermawan, Daniel Mercer, Sean Lucas, Charlotte Lucas, William Lucas, Rachel Newman, and Lucas Newman; one great-grandchild, Simon Robison; and many nieces and nephews.

Bonnie is preceded in death by the love of her life, Richard Lucas; her mother, Dorothy (Ostrander) Frederick; grandparents, Charles and Gertrude Ostrander; and siblings, William Frederick, Donna Watson and Barbara Reid.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the team at Blissful Home Care for their wonderful and loving care of Bonnie, especially Donna Beach who helped Bonnie fulfill her final wish of a magnificent garden.

Private family services will take place on July 3, 2021. Bonnie will be laid to rest next to her husband, Richard, at Lakeview Cemetery in Harbor Springs.

Memorial donations in her memory should be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Harbor Springs or a charity of your choice.
