I'll never forget when I accompanied Dr. Combs in surgery as a medical student. He pointed out a structure on the patient that I did not recall from anatomy. He said, "A bladder that contains urine is the...?" I finally replied, "Urinary bladder" viewing the balloon like heavily innervated organ. He was kind despite my ignorance and never mentioned the incident again. Over the years he has shown his mentees how to live and survive in medicine. May warm memories of life with him embrace his family.

I was a junior resident under Julius, my senior resident. As a native Detroiter I followed the same path of education, profession and practice as Julius.
After reading his obituary, I can agree with every word. My best wishes to his lovely wife who I remember for her fine dinners she served to hungry
young residents.

My dear Alice: Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your dear husband.
Dr. Combs was known to me as a Physician of few words, a decent caring man whose focus was the Quality Care of his patients; he was always respectful in his communication with Nursing Staff The medical profession and the City of Detroit have lost a giant. May you find comfort in the memories of your many years together. Hugs for Bud. RIP, Dr. Combs.
