Bernard L. Desterhouse

Bernard L. Desterhouse, age 83, of Fremont died Friday, April 16, 2021, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Bernard was born Sept. 27, 1936, in Omaha to Leslie and Genevieve (Murphy) Desterhouse. He was raised in Omaha and attended school there until enlisting in the United States Army. He served from 1962 until 1964. After his service, he was married then divorced. He then married Bonnie Keating Ishmiel on Sept. 27, 1978. Bernard was a longtime employee of Valmont. After his retirement from Valmont, he worked part time for Everett Repair and Kirby Auto Parts (Napa Auto), both in Valley, while also living there. The couple moved to Fremont about 6 years ago.
Bernard was a member of the American Legion Post #262 of Yutan.
Survivors: wife, Bonnie of Fremont; children, Michelle (Jim) O'Brien of Omaha, John (Deanna) Ishmiel of Fremont, Darin (Kristine) Ishmiel of Fremont, Diane (Kurt) Denker of Fremont, Dorothy Moos of Fremont, Dan (Raylean) Ishmiel of Florida, Mike (Mary) Slayton of North Carolina; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brother, Dick Desterhouse of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brothers-in-law, Robert (Barbara) Keating of Norfolk, Dave (Nancy) Keating of Omaha.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, brother, and son-in-law, Jerry Moos.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 20, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Fremont with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the Fremont Veterans Park (https://fremontveteranspark.org/). Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont.
