Darlene Schwinck Obituary

Darlene Schwinck, 83, of West Point died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at Colonial Haven in Beemer.

Darlene E. Koester was born at her grandparents' home in Dodge County on Jan. 24, 1930, to Otto and Martha (Engelbrecht) Koester. She grew up on a farm near Scribner, attended country school, and graduated from Scribner High School in 1948. On March 12, 1950, Darlene married Delwin Schwinck at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Scribner.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, LWML and GFWC Women's Club. She was a 4-H leader and Girl Scout leader.

Survivors include: sons, David (Linda) of Lincoln, Brian (Claire) of Lincoln and Darren of West Point; daughters, Carole (C. Stephen) Meyer of Hastings, Nancy (Dan) Martinez of Fremont, Jayne (Doug) Freudenburg of Madison, Wendy (Bill) Roberts of Chadron, Sally Schwinck of Lincoln, Nadine (Chris) Peatrowsky of West Point and Amy (Chris) Reed of Creston, Iowa; 25 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Norma (Norman) Tonjes of Scribner; and sisters-in-law, Marian Koester of Scribner and Alice Schwinck of Fremont.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991, and by a brother and a son-in-law.

The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point with the Rev. Richard Bringewatt officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point or Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Scribner.
