DeLores Ruwe Ohms

DeLores Irene Ruwe Ohms, 73, of Bennington died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, in Fremont.

She was born July 8, 1936, in Fremont to Morgan and Irene Stork Rasmussen. She lived in the Herman area as a child, attending Spiker District 48 rural grade school and graduated from Fremont High School. After attending Midland College in Fremont, she taught in a rural school in Washington County for two years.

She married William Ruwe in 1954 and to this union three children were born. She lived in the Hooper area for 29 years. She served as a 4-H club leader for 10 years, was a longtime member of a Washington County Extension club and was active in various church groups and committees. During these years, she owned and managed several rental properties in Hooper and Fremont.

For a period of time, she lived in the Denison, Iowa, area and worked as the Welcome Wagon representative. She then moved to Omaha and was employed as office manager and inside sales representative for Harco Corporation.

She married Amond Ohms of Harlan, Iowa, on Aug. 12, 1984. They lived on Amond's farm in rural Harlan for several years and then moved in to Harlan. During this time, she was employed as office manager at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan for 10 years. She and Amond moved to Blair in 1996, where she was employed as administrative assistant at Lake Arrowhead Inc. for

5 1/2 years. In 2004, they moved to a new home they built on a lake just west of Bennington. DeLores's joy in life was being a loving host to friends and family. She loved to cook and create a beautiful, welcoming, warm, loving home.

Survivors include: her husband, Amond; two sons, Chris (and wife, LuAnn) Ruwe and Mark (and wife, Becky) Ruwe, all of Hooper; a daughter, Sheryl (and husband, Gary) Denison of Blair; stepchildren, Neil (and wife, Melanie) Ohms of Harlan, Diane (and husband, Tim) Johnson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Lori and Kevin Bayne of Omaha; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Roland Rasmussen of Blair, Dan Rasmussen of Oakland and Steve Rasmussen of Herman; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Norma Kuhlman.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, David Rasmussen.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bennington. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in Fontanelle Cemetery.
