Joseph C. Kuzel, 90, of Schuyler died Monday, March 24, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Schuyler.
Joe was born Jan. 9, 1924, in Schuyler to Joseph V. and Christina (Vitek) Kuzel. He attended
District 11 School through the eighth grade. He then farmed with his father. On Aug. 14, 1946, Joe married Dorothy Ernesti in Dodge. They lived on the family farm until moving to Schuyler in 1976.
Joe loved farming, traveling and believed in working hard as well as playing hard. He enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards, talking with people and was always up for a good joke. Joe had served on the District 11 School Board, was a life member of Holy Trinity, Heun, the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Workmen.
He is survived by four children, Charlotte Brichacek of Schuyler, Larry (Gladys) Kuzel of Rogers, Vernell (Larry) Votruba of Norfolk and Lana (Dean) Bell of Richland; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy, who died July 3, 1998; and a sister, Martha Neesen.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Heun with the Revs. Leo Rigatuso and Dan Lenz officiating. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. today at Kracl Funeral Chapel in Schuyler with a rosary service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Schuyler Cemetery. Lunch will be served immediately following the funeral at Heun's church basement.
