Josephine L. Wissel, 89, of Estes Park, Colo., died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at Prospect Park Living Center in Estes Park.
She was born Nov. 20, 1916, near Cheney to Leslie and Laure Magee. She was raised near Cheney and graduated from Cheney High School in 1934. She attended the University of Nebraska and taught in rural Lancaster County. She married Leonard Wissel on June 6, 1940, and lived on a farm near Hickman until 1968 when they moved to Hickman. She moved to North Bend in 1999 and Estes Park in 2003 to be near family.
She was a member of Hickman Presbyterian Church for many years where she served as church elder, deacon and Sunday school superintendent. She also was active in Presbyterian Women and served in many leadership positions. She was active in extension clubs and 4-H. She was a supportive farm wife until she went to work at Hovland Swanson in Lincoln in 1969 until retirement in 1981.
Survivors include: two daughters, Donna (and husband, Mike) Williams of North Bend and Dot (and husband, Phil) Rohrbaugh of Estes Park; a sister, Darlene Barry of Tuscon, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Harley Heckman of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Nathan and Christy Williams of Cedar Bluffs, Mandi and Sebastian Vuinovich of Brisban, Australia, Ryan and Megan Rohrbaugh of Loveland, Colo., and Lindsey Rohrbaugh of Fort Collins, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Grace and Isaac Williams; and special friends in Hickman, North Bend and Estes Park.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Hickman Presbyterian Church, 300 E. Third St., in Hickman. The Revs. Leslie Magee and Bob Fields will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St., with the family present. The graveside service will be in 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Park in Lincoln.
Memorials have been established for the Leonard and Josephine Memorial Scholarship Fund at Hickman Presbyterian Church.
