Mass of Christian Burial, Marcella A. Chudomelka, age 98, of Dodge, NE, will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge, NE. Inurnment will be in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with a luncheon to follow in the church fellowship hall. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 p.m., to 7:00 p.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with a Vigil Service and Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The visitation will continue on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Marcella Chudomelka nee Marcie, 98, of Dodge, NE, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed away on October 5, 2024.
Marcie was born June 18, 1926, on the family farm north of Howells, NE, to Joe and Mary Stanek Glodowski. Marcella graduated Howells High School in 1944, and attended Omaha University before returning home to help care for her mother on the family's farm near Snyder, NE.
Marcie married, Donald F. Chudomelka, on September 30, 1946, in Dodge, NE. They moved to the Chudomelka family farm South of Dodge and shared the family home with her father-in-law, Frank Chudomelka. They lived on the farm until moving to their new home in Dodge. Don and Marcella established D&M Farms, Inc. and worked side by side, until her husband's death in 2004.
Marcie was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church Alter Society, and the Christian Mother's Society. She was the Treasurer of Branch 8 of the First Catholic Slovak Life Insurance Company of Dodge for over ten years, a member of the Dodge Extension Club, and was a Poll worker for many major elections. In addition to pecan rolls, she loved to bake her famous Tea Rings, filled with nuts, coconut, cinnamon and butter.
Marcie was an avid exercise enthusiast devoting over 40 years to water aerobics at the Fremont YMCA. Until the age of 90 she drove to water aerobic sessions, leaving the house at 6:00 am, in the morning in order to arrive by 7:00 am. Marcie was recognized by the Fremont Tribune as one of the most devoted and elderly water aerobic participants. She also belonged to a rural Pinochle club with dear female friends for over 35 years, and only missed club meetings three times, for the birth of her three daughters.
Marcie is predeceased by her parents, Joe and Mary Glodowski; husband, Donald F. Chudomelka; brother, Milo Glodowski; sisters, Marie Belsky, Rita Burbridge; and two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Glodowski, Darlene Spies Kovar; and three brothers-in-law, Lawrence Belsky, Jim Burbridge, and Jerry Hughes.
She is survived by sister, Joan Hughes; daughters: Connie (Paul) Pieper, Candy (Tom) Beck, and Pat Chudomelka M.D., Ph.D., (Keith Wagner).
She is also survived by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
