Patrick Miles Obituary
Patrick R. "Pat" Miles, 63, of Hooper died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at his home.
He was born March 3, 1945, in Austin, Minn., to Matthew and Elizabeth (Rank) Miles. He grew up in Austin. He served in the U.S. Navy from May 5, 1964, to May 20, 1968, aboard the U.S.S. Kamehameha Submarine during the Vietnam War. He then served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1968 to 1975 and then in the Army Reserved from 1977 to 2005, and retired as command sergeant major. He moved to Minneapolis in 1968, to Fremont in 1971 and then moved to Hooper. He was employed in the area for over 35 years, retiring in 2007.
Pat married Marcia "Marcy" Klubertanz on May 22, 1971, in Crystal, Minn.
He was a former member of American Legion Post 18 of Hooper and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10535 of Winslow-Hooper.
At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Survivors include: his wife, Marcy; three sons, Zachary (and wife, Jennifer) Miles of Wichita Falls, Texas, Joshua Miles of Lillington, N.C., and Josiah (and wife, Cheri) Miles of Hooper; a daughter, Michelle (and husband, Daniel) Engel of Ames; sister-in-law, Sharon Miles of Fridley, Minn.; and six grandchildren, Jabin and Chloe Swanson, Kaleb and Alayna Miles and Shannon and Madison Engel.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mike Miles.
The memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with the Rev. Scott Jensen, chaplain of Fremont Area Medical Center, officiating. There is no visitation, however, friends may sign the register book from 1-8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. today, all at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of VFW Post 854 and American Legion Post 20 at the funeral home immediately following the memorial service.
A memorial will be established in his name for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
