Roland F. "Feathers" Werblow, 84, of Dodge died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point.
He was born Dec. 31, 1920, in Snyder. He was a 1938 graduate of Snyder High School. He served in the U.S. Navy for five years and nine months in the Pacific and European theaters of World War II from 1940 to 1946. He married Grace Tietgen on Jan. 18, 1946, at First Lutheran Church in Omaha. The couple purchased the Vlach Produce Store and moved to Dodge in 1946. They operated the business until 1957 when they sold it and built a caged layer plant on the west edge of Dodge. They operated it until retiring from the egg business in 1984. He had also been a manager of Sandee Apartments in Dodge from the time they were built, a Dodge School bus driver for 25 years, and he once managed the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
He was a member and past officer of Dodge American Legion Post 122 and Dodge V.F.W. 8597. He once held office on Dodge Village Board. He served as Webster Township Judge for Immanuel Lutheran Church, and was a member of Dodge Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Patrick (and wife, Kay) Werblow of Lincoln and Thomas (and wife, Sandee) Werblow of North Platte; three daughters, Susan (Mrs. Keith) Schweitzer of Greenfield, Iowa, Sandra (Mrs. William) Gaube of Omaha, and Sheri (Mrs. Mike) Lyon of Columbus, Ga.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Snyder with the Rev. David Spaeth officiating. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Humlicek Funeral Home in Dodge with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Fort McPherson Military Cemetery in Maxwell at a later date.
