Roxie Vance Obituary

Roxie M. Vance, 91, of Fremont died Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Roxie was born June 27, 1920, to Hiram and Carrie (Dix) Atwood near Anoka. She grew up in South Dakota and came with her family to Fremont in August 1935. Roxie graduated from Fremont High School in 1939.

Roxie married Claude Vance on July 6, 1939, in Ravenna. They lived in Scottsbluff, Holbrook, Ariz., and Denver before returning to Fremont in 1942. Roxie had worked for the F.W. Woolworth Dime Store in downtown Fremont for 25 years. She began working there as Christmas help, and when she retired in 1980, she was the personnel supervisor.

Survivors include: two daughters-in-law, Norma Vance of Fremont and Mary Henke of Washington, Mich.; son, Ray (and wife, Ardes) Vance of South Pasadena, Fla.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; great-great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Sherrill of Hampton, Conn.; and a brother, Arlie Atwood of LaRue, Texas.

Roxie was preceded in death by her husband Claude in August 1993; seven sisters; a brother; a son, Robert Vance; and a daughter, Ruth Hammond.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont with Deacon Dan Mueller of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont officiating. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Fremont.

Memorials are suggested to Odyssey Hospice.
