Thomas Tonjum Obituary
The funeral for Thomas J. Tonjum, 46, of Clinton, Wis., formerly of Fremont, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont.
He died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at his home.
He was born May 15, 1959, in Faribault, Minn. He moved with his family to Austin, Minn. in 1965 and came to Fremont in 1973. He was a 1977 graduate of Archbishop Bergan Junior-Senior High School. He previously had been employed for the former Randall's Grocery Store, then for Roger's Tent and Awning for 15 years and later at the former Pendelton Woolen Mills, all in Fremont. He also was a sewing machine repairman in Fremont and the surrounding area. He moved to St. Paul, Minn. in 1998 and then to Clinton in 2003. He was employed by Serta Matress.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, canoeing, fishing, hunting, four-wheeling, motorcycles, playing poker, computer games and was a avid magic player.
He married Norma Hynek on Sept. 25, 1982, in Fremont. They later divorced. He married Peggy Jones on May 15, 2000, in Las Vegas.
Survivors include: his wife, Peggy A. Tonjum of Clinton, Wis.; a son, Elliott Patrick Tonjum of Emerson; daughters, Emily Marie Tonjum of Emerson and Megan Ann McDuffee and fiance, Ross Dittmer of Clinton; his parents, John A. and Mary K. (Roell) Tonjum of Fremont; a grandson, Benjamin Ryan McDuffee; a brother, Mark (and wife, Ella) Tonjum of Sioux City, Iowa; two sisters, Jane A. Tonjum and Nancy L. Maple, both of Fremont; his former wife, Norma Riedmann of Emerson.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann K. Tonjum; grandparents, John M. and Olivene M. Tonjum and George F. and Irene E. Roell; and godfather, Thomas C. Hanson.
The Rev. Owen Korte will officiate Saturday's service. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
A memorial has been established to Archbishop Bergan Junior-Senior High School in Fremont.
