A. ALLEN Obituary

Westside farmer, A.E. "Buzz" Allen, formerly of Firebaugh, Ca., passed away surrounded by his family and entered Heaven's gates on September 17, 2013. Buzz was born in Madera, Ca., to Arvid "Swede" and Beulah "Sal" Allen on October 24, 1939. Raised on a farm in Firebaugh, Buzz graduated from Dos Palos High School. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Marines. After serving his duty, Buzz married the love of his life, Patricia Allen. The couple returned to the Valley where Buzz attended college. He then decided to return to Firebaugh where, along with his brother Dink, they formed Allen Brothers Farming and the two farmed together for many years. Buzz loved working the ground and proceeded to spend the next forty years farming and raising his family. Buzz also was the first president to serve on the newly formed Firebaugh Las Deltas Unified School District and he served on that board for twelve years. During his board tenure, he was instrumental in the formation of Firebaugh High School. Buzz and Dink donated the land where Firebaugh High School is now located. Today, the children of Firebaugh utilize the A.E. "Buzz" Allen gym, which was dedicated to him for his tireless efforts to make sure they could attend high school within their own community. Buzz was also an involved community leader and served on many boards related to agriculture. Buzz had many interests. He was a pilot, avid golfer, traveler, and most recently could be spotted on his Harley trike, "Lucy". Buzz enjoyed life to the fullest and he was known throughout the valley for his generous nature and utmost integrity. He was a true family man and was his happiest spending time with his treasured family. He made sure to pass on honor and respect to his children and grandchildren and his legacy will continue through them. Buzz leaves behind Pat, his beloved wife of nearly 54 years; his daughter, Cindy Best and husband Mike of Firebaugh; sons, Todd and wife Cheryl, of Fresno, Joel and wife Lavonne of Firebaugh, and John and wife Denise, of Avila Beach; grandchildren include, Clayton, Chelsea, and Carissa Best, Nicala, Brittany, Joshua, Jason, Brock, Taylor, Makenna, and Presley Allen. Buzz was also brother to Dink Allen, of Fresno, Gwen Wiggs, of Carmel, and Cheryl Swanberg of Danville. Buzz was a nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend to countless others. He will be dearly missed. Respecting Buzz's wishes, there was no service. For those who would like to honor Buzz, remembrances may be made to, Firebaugh High School AVID Program, Firebaugh High School, 1976 Morris Kyle Drive, Firebaugh, Ca. 93622.

To Pat, Dink and Family: I'm a voice from the past. My life was touched by the Allens in a most special heartfelt way years ago when a friend was seriously injured. I don't live locally anymore, but I learned last week about Buzz's passing. I have such fond memories of the Allens, first business related which grew into friendship. My heart aches at the news and for your loss. I remember Buzz as a strong and vibrant human being, and judging from the "trike" photo he must have remained so. I know you must miss him so much. Take care. God speed.

I am deeply sorry to hear of your loss of younger brother Buzzy. Bev let me know of the sad news yesterday. Your whole family meant so much to Slim and Tom Locke's family as we were growing up on the 'LOCKE BROTHER'S RANCH'. All of us 9 kids felt loved and valued by your loving Mother 'SAL' and your Father 'Sweed'. Sending a big hug and tears your way.

Buzzy was a great little kid when we were kids living next to each and riding the school bus to grammar school in Mendota. We never kept in touch after the family moved to Firebaugh. Although there has always been fond memories of him, his parents Swede and Sal and brother Dinky.
