ALOHA DORMAN Obituary
Aloha "Louise" Dorman of Fresno went to rest on Friday, June 10, 2011, at the age of 95. A third generation Californian, she was born in Merced, Ca. on June 4, 1916, then moved with her family to Fresno, Ca. in 1919. She attended Fresno City Schools and graduated from Roosevelt High School with honors in 1934. She went in Nurse´s Training at the then Fresno County General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating from that program and getting her Registered Nursing Degree in 1939. Along with this study she attended Fresno State University and was graduated from there with a Bachelor of Nursing degree in 1940, and continuing her studies obtained her Public Health Credential. In 1941 she met Delor "Don" C. Dorman and they were married on May 30, 1942. Six months later, he was called into the service and fought with General Patton´s army all across Europe, going from the landing on the coast of Normandy to the release of prisoners in Auswitz. During the war years, Louise worked at Fresno County Hospital as a teacher of Orthopedics and Neurosurgical for Cadet Corps Nurses along with the late Dr. Walter Rohlfing. She also was a Red Cross Nurse doing Home Nursing in the evenings. After her husband´s discharge from the U.S. Army in 1945, they were re-united; fortunately he came home without a scratch, and they had 53 great years together, traveling the world, as well as spending much time in their beloved mountains at their cabin at Shaver Lake. She is a life member of the Sierra Club; CSU Fresno Alumni Association ; Retired Teacher´s; Independent Order of Forresters; Fresno Sports Car Club, Arthur Murray Hobby Club; and the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as Chaplain. In her free time, she was a poet, and had some of her works published in "Nurses Verses", and "Songs of the Nightingale" by Harbinger House. She is preceded in death by her husband, Delor "Don" C Dorman; her sister, Helen Mason; and her son, Jerry Dorman. She leaves special spots of gratitude and appreciation to Scotty, a grandson and his wife Maura for their love in seeing she had the best of the best care in her final journey, and to her god-son, Randy Spencer and his family Sue, Tatia, Kayla, and Marco for sharing and being included as a part of all their milestones, starting with Randy´s birth and for assuring her "independence" to the end. The family loves and thanks each and all of you who provided exceptional love, compassion, and care at The Windham, Well Being Group, Clovis Quality Care, Dr. Pinto, and to St. Agnes Hospice. She is survived by her sister, Cleo Stenberg; two grandsons; one god-son, four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Funeral Service for her will be held at Palm La Paz on Monday, June 20, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Fresno Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Honor next to the spot occupied by her late husband. The family requests that any remembrances be made to the Seventh Day Adventist, Fresno Central, 2980 E. Yale Ave., Fresno, Ca. 93703; or S.P.C.A. at 102 S. Hughes, Fresno, Ca. 93706.
