ALVIN HIXON Obituary

Alvin, age 83, went home to Heaven on Wednesday, December 16, 2009. He was born and raised in Fresno and graduated from Central High School in 1945. Alvin started brush shredding with his father while still in school and continued on with the business (Hixon Brush Shredding) as well as his own machine shop after his father retired and later passed away. After Alvin retired from brush shredding in 1995, his machine shop became known as a place where he solved problems for friends, neighbors and local businesses. Alvin was extremely creative with metal and many of his tools and implements will be in use for many years to come around Fresno. He loved the challenge of fixing something no one else would try, as well as the friends (old and new) that would stop by to visit. He was a giving man, deeply knowledgeable with a great sense of humor. Alvin was preceded in death by his first wife Sammy; their son Randy; two brothers; and a sister. He is survived by Kathleen, his wife of 26 years; his daughter ,Linda Merchant and her husband Brian; sisters, Roberta Davis, and Delores Hall; two stepdaughters, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. There will be no services at his request. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to West McKinley Assembly of God, 3014 W. McKinley Avenue, Fresno, Ca. 93722; or West Park Baptist Church, 1920 W. Dudley Ave., Fresno, Ca. 93728 ;or donor's favorite charity.

Hixon was the best of Fresno. Generous to a fault, a genius with metal, constantly productive. Seeing him in his shop, he was a humble perfectionist and it was amazing to see how much he loved his work. Once when I was complaining about my job he told me "you don't know how lucky you are to get up and go to work every day". He loved his shop and his small farm with a passion. He was an independent thinker whose advice and wisdom benefitted all he worked with and knew as a friend. His actions resulted in paths of success for others. Alvin was a remarkably productive man from an era of hard work. His cheerful example will be deeply missed by many who he helped and knew. Mike Beevers friend of Alvin

I am Alvin's Grandaughter and I just want to say that I love my Papa and he will forever be missed. But I know that he is with Jesus now!
Thank you Papa for being such a good man and passing that down to your grandchildren!

Alvin was a good neighbor and long time friend of Mel and Louise Deaile. The ol' neighborhood is passing away and it will never be replaced - these were all good honest hard working people. Our sympathies to his family.
