ALVIN HIXON

Alvin, age 83, went home to Heaven on Wednesday, December 16, 2009. He was born and raised in Fresno and graduated from Central High School in 1945. Alvin started brush shredding with his father while still in school and continued on with the business (Hixon Brush Shredding) as well as his own machine shop after his father retired and later passed away. After Alvin retired from brush shredding in 1995, his machine shop became known as a place where he solved problems for friends, neighbors and local businesses. Alvin was extremely creative with metal and many of his tools and implements will be in use for many years to come around Fresno. He loved the challenge of fixing something no one else would try, as well as the friends (old and new) that would stop by to visit. He was a giving man, deeply knowledgeable with a great sense of humor. Alvin was preceded in death by his first wife Sammy; their son Randy; two brothers; and a sister. He is survived by Kathleen, his wife of 26 years; his daughter ,Linda Merchant and her husband Brian; sisters, Roberta Davis, and Delores Hall; two stepdaughters, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. There will be no services at his request. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to West McKinley Assembly of God, 3014 W.
