Antonio Toste Obituary
Antonio Goncalves Toste, age 89, was born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal on December 11, 1929 and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 17, 2019. Antonio's parents were Joao Goncalves Toste and Emilia Candida Borges. Antonio emigrated from the Azores to Canada in 1954 and spent two years in Canada working on farms and performing masonry work. In 1956, Antonio came to the United States to visit family friends in the Riverdale area where he met his wife Balbina C. Dias. Antonio and Balbina were married in 1956 and celebrated their 62nd anniversary on December 8, 2018. On February 13, 1961, Antonio became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America. He has forever been a proud and patriotic American. Antonio was a dairy farmer in Riverdale for thirty-six years. He loved his work and spent countless hours working on the dairy. Antonio enjoyed spending time with his family and was able to celebrate his final Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with his entire family. His family was truly blessed to have a devoted, caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Antonio was a devout Catholic, faithfully attending Sunday mass, and had a deep devotion to Our Lady of Fatima. Antonio is survived by his wife Balbina, his four daughters, Emily Groves, Bobbie Ormonde and her husband Andrew, Diana Toste, and Marie Barlow and her husband Eric, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Maria Jesus Toste of Riverdale and Emilia Teixeira of Terceira, Azores, and numerous nieces and nephews residing in California, the Azores and Brazil. The family would like to thank the staff at C-Care, the compassionate care providers from Comfort Keepers, St. Agnes Home Health and Hospice, Father James Moore, and Father Michael Andrade. They were truly a blessing to Antonio and his family during his final days. Visitation will be held at Wallin's Funeral Home in Riverdale on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will follow at St. Ann's Parish in Riverdale at 7:00 p.m. on January 24, 2019. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Riverdale on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Laton.
