Armen Avakian Obituary
September 1, 1953 - February 24, 2025
Indianapolis, Indiana - Armen Charles Avakian finished high school in Fresno and graduated from California State Fresno in 1975. In the Air Force, he attained the rank of Captain.
He learned to fly in Fresno and was a pilot for Continental Airlines. After retiring, he served as a Certified Flight Instructor.
Armen found friends in the Indianapolis Hiking Club and a singles group. His passion was collecting airplane models and aviation postcards, and he was attending the Amsterdam Aviation Collectors Fair when he died.
He was a kind and gentle person and saw good in the people he met. He is survived by his sister Armine Mortimer and his brothers Arra and Arten and by cousins, nieces, and nephews. His parents Arra and Georgia Avakian and his sister Arsine Peterson predeceased him. As Armen's family is scattered, no ceremony is planned. His ashes too will be scattered, in one of his favorite places.

Armen and I enjoyed each other's company at Moose picnics, St Luke's Dingles, and at numerous other activities over the last several decades. He was quiet and always a polite person. He will be missed greatly by his friends in Indianapolis.

I'm so sorry to hear about Armen.
I first met him on a hike and liked him immediately - such an, intelligent, knowledgeable guy with an interesting background. Over the years I would see him occasionally at concerts and for lunch, and always enjoyed our conversations.
