Brenda Preston Obituary

Brenda Burnett Preston passed on Friday March 21, 2025, at the age of 85.

Born in Selma, California, to Doris May Maxwell and Jack Montgomery Pugh, she spent her childhood in Fresno raised by her loving extended family. She moved with her mother to Rio del Mar when she was 15, and graduated from Watsonville high school. She married Wilhelm H Preston a local school teacher. She attended Cabrillo College and transferred to the University of California Santa, Cruz where she received a bachelor's degree in Anthropology. She later attended Arizona State University where she completed work for a PhD and earned a master's degree in Archeology.

She was an accomplished pianist and for many years gave lessons in her Rio del Mar home. An avid gardener, she delighted in growing heirloom roses. She was a writer and published author, and had a passion for researching her family's history.

She is survived by her two sons, Kurt Preston of Santa Ana, CA and Darren Preston of New Orleans, LA, and four grandchildren, Rae Fontaine, Angelo Preston, Erin Preston, and Emory Preston.

In place of flowers, the family asks those wishing to remember Brenda to make a donation to a charity of their choice in her honor.
