CALVIN MACPHERSON Obituary
With soothing hymns in his ears and loved ones at his side, Calvin MacPherson turned on the autopilot and headed to heaven on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. He was born in Long Beach, CA, to Mabel and John MacPherson, and was raised on a farm in Navelencia, CA. He went to Reedley High School with his brother, Robert, then attended Whitworth College in Spokane , WA. Cal was an independent contractor and small business owner of Cal's Carpet. In 1972, he met, and in 1975, married Alice Clover Green, the love of his life. He had two children, Scott and Bonnie Mac- Pherson, and then became step-father to Sharon Green, and Robert Colton Green. Cal loved the Lord and his family. Favorite passions included his garden and piloting his plane. On his first date with Alice he bravely invited her children, and ended the night by flying them all high above Fresno in his beautiful Beechcraft Debonair. How could Alice resist a guy like that? Cal was loved by all, famous for his cooking, baking, and hosting holiday get-togethers. He could cook anything and fix everything. Cal put everyone else before himself. The only thing bigger than his booming laugh was his hearty heart. His countless stories were full of daring and sidesplitting adventures. After serendipitously spotting a windsock on a hill on the central coast one day, he got permission to land in a field 15 minutes from what would become their second home, in Cambria, CA. Cal and Alice grew to call both Cambria and Fresno home. Cal was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Fresno, and the Las Palmas- Ponderosa Masonic Lodge. After earning his instrument rating as a pilot he was accepted into the Sheriff's Air Squadron, where he worked search and rescue operations. He became the squadron commander in 1971. Besides his devoted wife Alice, Calvin is survived by his son, Scott MacPherson; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie MacPherson Young and Tom Young; step-daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Gus Vriniotis; step-son and daughter-in-law, Colton Green and Liz Curtis; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; as well as his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Darlene MacPherson. We are ever grateful for our caring neighbors, many special friends, kind doctors and the wonderful staffs at Willow Creek Healthcare, Clovis Community Medical Center, and Pro Hospice. We're also thankful for our lifelong friends at First Presbyterian Church. Family and friends are invited to help honor Cal's life at First Presbyterian Church, 1540 M Street, Fresno , CA , on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Neighborhood Church at P.O.
