Sanger, California - Calvin D. Minor passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021, with his family at his bedside. "Cal" was born in Sanger, California, on November 8, 1948. He was the youngest of four children born to Dannie and Lucille Minor. Cal was raised in Sanger and graduated from Sanger High School in the class of 1966. It was at Sanger High School where he met his future wife, Margie Orozco. Cal and Margie were married in November, 1967, and they built a loving life together. Cal and Margie raised two children, a son and a daughter. Cal and Margie celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on the day before Cal's untimely passing.
After graduating from Sanger High School, Cal worked as a maintenance man at the Sanger Ice Company. In June, 1970, he entered the California Highway Patrol Academy in Sacramento. Upon graduation from the CHP Academy, he was assigned to East Los Angeles, where he worked for ten years before transferring to the Fresno CHP office and returning to live in Sanger in 1980. Cal was assigned to CHP Headquarters in Sacramento in 1990, before being assigned to West Los Angeles in 1991. In 1992, he returned to Sanger when he was assigned to the CHP's Central Division office in Fresno. Cal served the remainder of his CHP tenure in the Central Valley, with his final assignment being the Commander of the Fresno County Multi Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium (MAGEC). Cal retired from the CHP in 2003, concluding a distinguished 33-year career. In 2008, Cal was selected to be the Chief of Coalinga Police Department. He served as the Coalinga Chief of Police from 2008 to 2015, where he thoroughly enjoyed an extension of his law enforcement career.
Despite assignments to other parts of California, Cal was always proud of his roots in Sanger. He coached Sanger youth football and served as the President of the Sanger High School Apache Boosters from 1985 to 1987. Cal was selected as the Sanger Citizen of the Year in 1987.
Cal is survived by his wife Margie, son Daniel Minor and his wife Leticia of Anaheim, daughter Kristi Olivarez and her husband Phillip of Sanger, and four grandchildren. Cal is also survived by his sister Cloetta Randall of Atwater, sister Linda Jepson and her husband Jerry of Sacramento, and brother Ron Minor of Clovis.
A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2021, 10:00am at
St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sanger, California, followed by a graveside service at the Sanger District Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 14, 2021, 4:00-7:00PM at Wallin's Sanger Funeral Home.
