CATHERINE STANTON Obituary

We are grateful to God for our precious mother, Catherine Stanton. Cay was born in Oakland, CA, and graduated from Holy Names High School, and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from University of California, Berkeley. In that same year, she became one of the first women to serve as United States Naval WAVE, achieving the rank of Lt. j.g. She later obtained her teaching credential from UC Berkeley. In 1945, Cay married Art Stanton, a marriage that would flourish for 57 years until his death. They moved to Fresno, CA in 1955, to open the family business, Stanton Office Machines, and raise five daughters. Cay was a life long learner, avid reader, and valued education and expanding your horizons. Busy raising five girls, she opened her home to many family gatherings encouraging all to pursue their education and dreams. She enjoyed time spent being a teacher in English and History at Fort Miller Middle School and Hoover High School, in addition to helping Art with the family business. She volunteered at LARCS, United Way and was a member of AAUW. Her interests were many, playing Bridge, tennis, skiing, traveling the world, opera, music and literature. Later in life, Cay became an accomplished watercolor artist. Cay had a rich long life, always generous and was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She passed on her most valued gift, her faith, to her family. Cay was preceded in death by her husband, Art Stanton. Cay is survived by her loving sister, Bette Bennett; her five daughters, Deborah Tuttle, Jaclynne Stratman, Lisa Keema, Judy Stewart, and Patrice Loretta. She is also survived by her much cherished nieces; nephews; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her kind and loving caregivers; and to St. Paul Catholic Newman Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul Catholic Newman Center, 1572 E. Barstow, Fresno, CA on Friday, April 17, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to St. Paul Catholic Newman Center; Salvation Army; or Poverello House.

Patrice and family:
Our thoughts, love & prayers are with you all during this very sad & difficult time. Cay was a very special lady who loved her family dearly. She has left a "light" of herself in each of her daughters. May you all carry her "light" forward in all you do.
In deepest sympathy,

Jill Elizabeth Bennett-Weaver

To My One and Only Aunt; Aunt Cay:
Your Niece, Jill would like to express how grateful we presently live in a world, that recognizes women for their
contributions to life and those in it.
I say this because, ever since I was a
little girl, you were a woman that "Never stopped"! Whatever opportunity was offered too you to learn, and be involved in all the various mind, body, soul, advancements in life, you wanted to be present to take advantage of adding more to the already existing repertoire you accomplished! When selecting a phrase to describe you to others, I would say
you have always been on my list of one of the most admirable women, I had the
pleasure to grow up with!
So many wonderful memories to cherish of you, my Uncle Art and,my five (still
remaining close to this day), precious
cousins! I personally say, with tears
running down my face, "I Thank You and
Love You, Forever". I know that as my
mother's Sister, You had many similarities. And, as my cousins wrote
about your endless "Faith", that is the
most common similarity you both shared.

How can any one live as you did, recognizing the important things in life.... love, family, the ocean, the
snow, the heat of Fresno Summer's, and,
loving one man so much (My Uncle Art),
that your love together became your life? How Does One Describe their Faith?
Well, to me It is like the Wind. You
Cannot See It... Yet, You Can Feel It!

I Will Never Forget You, My Aunt Cay!

Have "FAITH" in my Love For You, Always! Your Beloved Niece, Jill
