Cedric Riano Obituary

Cedric John Riano

June 28, 1926 - July 7, 2024

Dinuba, California - Cedric John Riano was born on June 28, 1926, in Dinuba, California, on his family's property, where he lived his entire life. The second of three children, he shared a special bond with his twin sister, Natcha. After graduating from Dinuba High School in 1944, Cedric enlisted in the US Navy, training as a copilot in the PB4Y-2 "Privateer" aircraft during World War II. This experience ignited his lifelong passion for flying.

Returning to Dinuba after his military service, Cedric helped his mother run the family farm. He also launched a successful crop-dusting business, flying Stearman biplanes for 13 years before dedicating himself fully to farming. Introduced by friends, Cedric met Violet Mae "Love" Kisin, the love of his life. They married on September 2, 1956, and enjoyed 66 years together until Violet's passing in October 2022.

Cedric was renowned as one of the finest farmers in the San Joaquin Valley, earning respect for his skill and dedication. His contributions were recognized when he was named Grand Marshall of the Raisin Day Parade. He was also a committed member of the local Rotary Club and Masonic Lodge. Cedric served as Grand Master of the Lodge and was recently honored for 75 years of service.

Though flying was a lifelong passion, golf was Cedric's true love. A charter member of the Kings River Golf & Country Club since its opening in 1955, Cedric took pride in helping to construct the course with his D4 Caterpillar. His dedication to the game earned him a reputation as one of the region's best players. Both he and Violet cherished the friendships they formed on the course.

Cedric and Violet also shared a love for travel, visiting destinations like Russia, Spain, and Hawaii, and enjoying cruises to Alaska, Barbados, and Sydney. They were also long-time members of the Dinuba Presbyterian Church, where they made many close friends.

Cedric passed away peacefully at his home on July 7, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife Violet Riano, son Russell Riano, parents Hernando and Ida Riano, and siblings Blaine Riano and Natcha Anderson. He is survived by his children, Steve Riano and Lori Riano; grandchildren, Victoria Riano, Nicholas Riano, Connor Riano, Jill Chanley, and Griffin Chanley; nieces, Dawn Angelich, Kim Geist, and Kelly Nystrom Chambers; and brother-in-law, Larry Kisin. A Memorial Service will be held at his home for immediate family.
