Doris Littlewood Obituary

Doris Jean Littlewood was born in Gustine, California, on June 3, 1941. Doris passed away in the comfort of family and friends on Friday, February 22, 2008, in Fresno after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Doris will always be remembered as a devoted wife, caring mother, loving Grammie and genuine friend. She was a very sweet and caring woman who was quick with a hug and kept up on everybody's interests. She was active in parent activities such as supporting her children's school band groups and sports teams. She was a wonderful grandmother who loved her boys dearly. She made a point of going to Disneyland this last year for several days with grandsons Elliot and Gabriel despite not being in the best of health. Doris actively participated in her local sorority Laureate Kappa Lambda (Beta Sigma Phi Chapter), and in so doing served a term as Chapter President, was elected Chapter Sweetheart and developed many lasting friendships. Doris loved animals of all sorts, which earned her the nickname of Snow White. Before having children, she bred, raised and competitively showed wirehaired dachshunds with husband Hadley. Her love for dachshunds continued; she and Hadley recently adopted their latest wirehaired dachshund, Jake, before Christmas. In addition to caring for her own pets, Doris often volunteered to care for pets of family members and was a docent volunteer at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. Doris grew up in the Westside farming communities of Crow's Landing, Ca., and Tranquility, Ca., before moving to Fresno after graduating from Tranquility High School in 1959. She is survived by Hadley Littlewood of Fresno, her husband of 44 years; her daughter, Melissa Dore Littlewood of Fresno; her son, William Hadley Littlewood and his wife Michelle of Fresno; her grandsons, Elliot and Gabriel; her brother, Timothy Lindgren and his wife Barbara Lindgren, living in Alabama; and her mother, Helen Bell and her husband Earl Bell living in Arizona. Doris touched many people's lives and will be missed dearly. A Memorial Service will be held at Farewell Funeral Service, on Thursday, February 28, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Doris' name to either the Fresno Chaffee Zoo at www.fresnochaffeezoo.com or the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org. I will miss Doris. She was like a mother to me while I prepared for my wedding and the birth of my son. I will always remember and hold in my heart the kindness and love she showed me throughout all the years I've been friends with Missy.

Thanks for always having a room for me, Doris!
