EDWARD MAROUK Obituary

Ed Marouk was born on October 29, 1925, in Hartford, CT. He passed peacefully at his home in Folsom, CA on the morning of Saturday July 9, 2016. Ed was the eldest of the three sons of Senek and Virginia Marouk. He grew up in Hartford and joined the United States Army in January of 1944. After boot camp, he was lucky enough to spend the remainder of World War II on the island of Hawaii, where he became a decorated amateur boxer. After leaving the army, he spent a few weeks traveling across the country with an Armenian buddy. When they arrived at a stopping point, they would open the local phone book, search for an Armenian name, and call to ask if they could stay the night. They were always warmly welcomed. Ed joined his parents in Fresno, CA where they had moved during the war. He graduated from Fresno State College and went on to earn a degree from Hastings College of the Law, in San Francisco, CA. He started his law practice in Beverly Hills, CA, then later moved north to Eureka, CA to work as an Assistant District Attorney. It was in Eureka where he met and married his wife of 35 years, Alison Phillips, and where their son Sam was born. After a few years in Eureka, the family moved to Fresno, where their daughters Andrea and Elizabeth were born. Ed practiced law in Fresno for over 50 years. He always enjoyed expressing his love for art and developed a talent in sculpting, later becoming a well known local sculptor. Many of his sculptures were of legal themes and are displayed in courthouses, law libraries, and at Hastings College. Ed was well known for his sense of humor as well as his ferocity in the courtroom. He used the same fighting spirit that won him many boxing matches to fight for his clients. Until his last days, Ed brought his charm and humor to even the most mundane or difficult circumstances, flirting with nurses and laughing at the foibles of aging. He had a core of love and "joie de vivre" and will be remembered for the happiness he brought to others. Ed's children will be having a small private memorial. Remembrances in Ed's name may be made to Central California Legal Services (CCLS), www.centralcal legal.org, 559-570-1254, 2115 Kern Street, Suite 1, Fresno, CA 93721.

I was so fond of him and his brothers, they were my cousins, such fond memories of him at his home. I miss them...and his daughters visiting us at our home in Sudbury Massachusetts. My heart is broken I wish his children could contact me. It would be a delight.....

Ed, I'll miss you terribly. From law school, to roommates beginning our career, to some really crazy stuff, to your becoming an amazing artist. You'll keep the Angel's giggling.
