Elizabeth Harris Obituary

Elizabeth A Harris

November 11, 1931 - November 20, 2023

Cherokee Village, Arkansas - Ms. Harris, 92, was a native Californian born in Los Angeles and was a graduate of the University of California Santa Barbara and Fresno State University. She had many careers and talents: writer, illustrator, French translator, executive secretary, mother of two, grandmother of seven, and great-grandmother of fifteen. From her professional life, Ms. Harris was most proud of her years as the secretary to the chief of police of the Fresno Police Department. During her time there, she was the grand prize winner during the 1985 National Secretaries Week for her essay about her love of being a secretary and "the professionalism of secretaries in the public sector." For the last 30 years, Elizabeth and her partner Charlie called Sharp County, Arkansas, their home. Ms. Harris is survived by her daughter Margaret and Margaret's husband Peter, her son David and his wife Patricia, and their father Rodney. Among the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are musicians, business owners, teachers, artists, entrepreneurs, nurses, writers, engineers, and scientists. All of us remember her for her quick wit and humor, encyclopedic memory and knowledge of history and popular culture, and her unfailing belief in the kindness of all people.

We miss Elizabeth. As her son, I can say that my childhood was uniquely wrapped in love and wonder and curiosity. From Fresno to Arkansas, she left a trail of smiles.

I hired Elizabeth when she first came to the PD and she was my secretary for many years at the FPD. She was very intelligent and the fastest typist in the entire department. She was stolen away from me by th Chief, much to my chagrin
In 1989 she wrote a document called. `The famous words of 1989´ with an illustration. It was hand typed flawlessly
If anyone would like this call me and will mail it to you

It is with sadness that I read of the of the passing of Liz. The family lived across the street from my family. My mother kept in touch with Elizabeth until her passing. My sincere condolences to Margaret, David and your families. May she rest in peace. I have many fond memories. Kelly Woodard Lipari.
