George Miyake Obituary

DR. GEORGE MIYAKE George was born on July 4, 1918, in Fowler, CA and passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2004. He was preceded in death by his wife Yoshiko. George graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1940 with a Doctorate in Optometry. He was a life member of the American Optometric Foundation, a founding member of the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO), a life member of the Board of Trustees and Trustee Emeritus of SCCO. He was named Fresno County Optometrist of the Year. George was a member of the Omega Delta Fraternity, Fowler Lions Club, Fowler Buddhist Church and the Japanese American Citizen's League (JACL). He also served on the National Endowment Committee of the JACL. George is survived by his daughters, Laraine Miyake-Combs and Susan Mochizuki and her husband Robert; sons, Kenneth Miyake and his wife Kim and Gregory Miyake and his wife Patti; grandchildren, Lisa and Jason Mochizuki and Kristen, Todd and Lauren Miyake; and sister, Pauline Sakata. A Memorial Service will be held at the Fowler Buddhist Church on Friday, January 30, 2004, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Michael J.Fox Parkinson's Foundation, Grand Central Station, P.O.
