H. Struven Obituary

H. Douglas Struven, formerly of Fryeburg, Maine, passed away at his home in Squaw Valley, California on August 4, 2007, Following a short illness, he was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on December 8, 1913. As a young child he and his parents moved to Worcester, Massachusetts, where he was educated. During WWII he worked as a precision machinist in a defense plant and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. After moving to Maine in 1947, he worked as a dairy farmer and was treasurer for the Maine Dairyman's Association for many years. He also worked for the Maine State Liquor Commission managing a liquor store in Fryeburg, Maine, for 17 years. After retiring in 1976, he moved to California and continued to be active, working maintenance at Sequoia Lake YMCA camp. His hobbies included working in his yard, reading, woodwoorking and photography. He was a devoted life-long member of the Baha'i Faith. Mr. Struven is survived by Esta (Pomeroy) Struven, his wife of 67 years; and four children, H.Douglas Struven II and his wife Marie of Fryeburg, Maine, Roderic Struven and his wife Kay of Luttrrell, Tennessee, Ellen Riley of Squaw Valley, Roberta Dailey of Fryeburg; and five grandchildren and six great -grandchildren.
