HERBERT JUNG "Herb" FUNG

Herbert "Herb" Jung Fung was born on June 29, 1929, and passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. He was born to first generation Chinese American parents, Jung Lok Chin and Quinn Ying. His father, a revolutionary contemporary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, moved his family to America in 1919, eventually settling in Fresno, CA. Herb graduated from Edison High School in 1947. He went on to receive his Doctor of Pharmacy from University of Southern California in 1954, and was inducted into the Rho Chi Honor Society. Herb and Mary were married in November and he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean Conflict in December of 1954.They moved to Lompoc, CA and were stationed at U.S.D.B for the remainder of his tour. After being discharged, he worked at Clinton Pharmacy until 1964. Later that year, Herb and Mary embarked on a new adventure and poured everything they had into opening Westwood Pharmacy. With Herb's strong work ethic, he worked nearly 100 hours per week, he created a successful business that lasted 30 years until he retired in 1994. Herb provided numerous jobs for students, family and friends. Westwood is where his 'American Dream' came true, where he and Mary raised their family, built longstanding friendships within the community, and created many incredible memories. Herb was a friendly, loving and strong person. He loved sharing new and exciting experiences with his children and grandchildren, fanatically supporting Fresno State baseball and USC football, gardening daily, and tending to his beautiful koi pond. Most of all, he loved spending time with Mary, his devoted wife and best friend of over 60 years. Their loyalty and friendship to one another and commitment to their children, grandchildren and friends was unwavering. Herb was preceded in death by his father, Jung Lok Chin; mother, Quinn Ying; and siblings, Violet Yee, Lily Mar, Edward Fung, and Allen Fung. He is survived by his wife, Mary Fung; siblings, Nellie Chinn, Vera Fong, Rosie Fong, Walter Fung, and David Fung; children, Gail Ho and her husband William, and Bryan Fung and his wife Tricia; grandchildren, Britni Estes and her husband Dan, Dustin Ho and his wife Cynthia, Stephanie Ho, Christian Fung, Emerson Fung, and Landon Fung; and his great-grandson, Joseph Herbert Ho Estes. We want to thank the staff at Bright Horizon Hospice; and Well Being Senior Solutions for their loving care. A Burial Service will be held at Belmont Memorial Park, 201 N. Teilman, Fresno, CA 93706, on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at 12:30 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at First Chinese Baptist Church Fresno, 6080 N Angus Street, Fresno, CA 93710, at 2:00 p.m. A reception to follow.
