IRIS McKAY Obituary

Iris McKay was born in London, England, on May 8, 1926. She met her husband, Clayton McKay, who was serving in the United States Army during World War II, and they were married in 1944. She then migrated to the United States with her family in 1947, when Clayton was discharged from the Army. They settled in Fresno, CA, and lived there for 20 years, until moving to Selma, CA, where she worked at the Farmers Insurance Agency until the week before her death. She was a member of the Selma First Baptist Church Choir for over 40 years, and was active in the community with several other groups. Iris's biggest joy in life was her family. She loved the time spent at gatherings and created a family that is rich in tradition. She had the ability to send birthday cards to arrive on the right day and still shared life's happenings by written letter! She took great pride in the accomplishments of her family during their journey through life. She was preceded in death by her husband Clayton; her brother Ernie; her sons, Michael and Patric; her daughter Valerie; and her nephew Pete. She is survived by her son Gary; her daughters-in-law, Patti, Terri and Kilcha; and her sister Joyce. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Selma First Baptist Church, at 2025 Grant Street in Selma, CA, on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at 1:00 p.m.
