James Fredericks Obituary

Crestline, California - A Memorial Mass will be celebrated for James Fredericks on Tuesday, February 13. 2024 at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, located at 2140 N. Cedar, Fresno.
Jim passed away in a car fire on June 3, 2022 near Barstow, CA. He was returning to his home in Crestline, CA after spending the previous evening in Fresno with his sister Carol.
Jim was raised in Fresno and graduated from San Joaquin Memorial in 1960. While there, he met the love of his life, Gail Horsch, who became his wife and the mother of their daughter Wendy. Jim went on to graduate from Fresno State and to work for the Fresno Bee for many years, becoming the Director of Advertising. He subsequently worked for several papers in other communities and then founded and published the Valley Chronicle in Hemet, CA.
Several years after Gail and Jim divorced, he met and married Karla while both worked for the Bee. They adopted two sons, John and Brandon, who each had children of their own. After quite a few years, Jim and Karla also divorced, but he continued to be concerned for her welfare and visited her weekly until she passed away in 2012.
Their son John pre-deceased Jim in 2020, and their son Brandon died several weeks after Jim.
In addition to being pre-deceased by his parents, John and Maxine Fredericks, and his brother Johnny, Jim leaves behind his daughter Wendy, her mother Gail, sister Carol, granddaughter Hanna, grandsons Devon and Austin, niece Jean Marie, nephews Matthew and Raymond, and several great grandchildren.

Jim was my first boss at The Fresno Bee. I can remember sitting in The Bee cafeteria at luncheon watching him use almost a whole shaker of salt on his French fries LOL! I can remember many parties the advertising department held at his house, with Marty Arnold and Guy Goodpaster cooking steaks on the BBQ. The last time I saw Jim was when we visited him at his house in Las Vegas.
