James Gardner Obituary

DR. JAMES DONALD GARDNER, JR. Dr. Gardner was born on August 30, 1955, in Mount Airy, North Carolina and passed away on Wednes- day, October 11, 2006. He was preceded in death by his father James Donald Gardner, Sr. Throughout high school and college, James was involved in track and cross country. He ranked 4th in the State in the half-mile. James was also involved with music. He was First Chair in the Tennessee State Band and Senior Trumpet Soloist in the University of Tennessee Orchestra. He received awards from the Beta and Honor Societies and Senior Alpha Honorary Scholastic Society. While in college, James pursued an evolving interest in chemistry and medicine. He worked for eight months as a research chemist for the Tennessee Valley Authority in Chattanooga before entering medical school. James completed residencies at Kansas Medical Center specializing in Research Tissue Expansion, general surgery residency and internship at Stockton Medical Center and Modesto Medical Center. This was followed by a plastic surgery residency in Kansas City. James was voted one of the top two plastic surgeons in Fresno. James is survived by his son, James Donald Gardner, III; daughter, Danielle Ricchiuti Gardner both of Fresno; sisters, Valda Pollard of North Carolina and Carmia Eldrige of Tennessee; brother, Gregory S. Williams; and his mother, Adria Underwood both of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Visitation will be held at Wallin's Sanger Funeral Home on Thursday, October 19, 2006, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at Wallin's Sanger Funeral Home on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society of Fresno, 2222 W.
