James Markarian Obituary

James Blair Markarian

March 10, 1941 - June 27, 2024

Fresno, California - James Blair Markarian, aged 83, passed away on June 27, 2024 in Fresno, California. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, Uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed. Many called him Jimmy or Jim, all will remember his generosity and wonderful sense of humor.

James was born on March 10, 1941, in Fresno, California to Ferndinand and Jean Markarian, and was the youngest of three children.

James met the love of his life, Betty Brink, in the 7th grade, at Hamilton Jr. High school and pursued her throughout junior high, high school, and into college before she gave in. James started working for Standard Oil in 1970 and purchased the Chevron Station on the corner of Palm and Shaw, where he remained the owner for 18 years. He was well respected and always made time to help those in need. James went on to work for Lou Herwaldt and Kitahara Auto Dealerships. After James retired, he worked for Enterprise Holdings.

James and Betty loved to travel. They traveled to Quito, Ecuador where Betty was from, and shared adventures to Morocco, Hawaii, Mexico, London, Cayucos, and Morro Bay. Their favorite place to go together was San Francisco, it held many fond memories for them. James was very proud of his children and his 4 grandchildren and loved them more than anything.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Markarian; his parents Freddie and Jean Markarian; his brother Robert Markarian; and his sister Myrna Paul.

James is survived by his son Michael Markarian; and his daughter Patricia Tingley and her husband Mickel Tingley. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jimmy Markarian, Michael Markarian, Cambria Tingley and Finn Tingley.

A modest, Graveside service will be held August 2, 2024, 10:00 am at Belmont Memorial Park. A reception will follow.

Damn! First of all, my condolences to all of the Markarian Clan. I grew up with Jim, Betty, Mike, and Trish... Mike and Jim were fellow YMCA Biloxi Tribe members. I have many grand memories of passing the time at their Fig Garden home, us kids (my brother Jeff, Mike, Trish and myself swimming and playing in the backyard, taking breaks to walk to the corner station to see Jim. My dad JJ and Jim were poker buddies, too. God bless you Jim. May your eternal rest be comforted by our fond remembrances of your life.

So sad today after getting the news of Jim´s passing. We worked together for many years and you couldn't ask for a better friend. I know you´re with Betty now and how much you loved her. My prayers to your family. Jim, you were truly a gentleman and one of the good guys. Rest now.
