Jean Loveless Joy

Jean Joy Obituary

JEAN LOVELESS JOY Jean was born in Elmira, New York on May 22, 1920, and passed away on Friday, March 9, 2007. Jean grew up in Elmira and after graduation from high school, worked in the local defense plant to earn money so she could attend art school in New York City. After graduation from the McDowell School of Art, she was employed by Van Cleef and Arpels Jewelers in New York City as a jewelry designer. Many of her designs were worn by celebrities of the 1940's and were showcased in newspapers including the New York Times and on numerous magazine covers including Look magazine, Life magazine and Vanity Fair. She met Charles T. Joy, married and moved in 1946 from New York City to Orosi, California. She and Charlie raised two daughters in Orosi and in 1966 moved to Fresno. That year, Jean enrolled in Fresno City College and received her degree in Food Services Administration. She eventually became Director of Food Services at Saint Agnes Medical Center, and in 1980 accepted the position of Director of Food Services for San Joaquin Gardens. She retired from San Joaquin Gardens in 1987. Jean was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star in Orosi, California. She was an avid reader, loved to garden and was especially fond of her beautiful irises. She had a great (and sometimes irreverent) sense of humor, an incredible work ethic and a quiet benevolence. She was a woman of many intrinsic talents as well as an incredible artist. Jean was a born organizer and could make one dollar stretch farther than most people could with fifty. Cindy and Shelly would like to thank Tom McCoy and the loving caregivers of the Woodward Park Residential Board and Care, and all of the wonderful, devoted care- givers of the California Armenian Home, who showed exceptional compassion, kindness and good humor, not just to our mom, but to us as well. We thank Jamie, Steven, Dorothy, Blanca, Mirabelle, and all too many to name, for the exceptional care and kindness that our mom received during her last few years. We also wish to thank Vern and Joanne of Optimal Hospice, and their entire team, for the dedicated care and wonderful compassion that helped make our mother's passing as comfortable as possible. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles of Fresno; parents, Smith and Lelia Loveless; brothers, Edwin Loveless and Willys Loveless; and sisters, Harriet Loveless Dunlap and Marjorie Loveless Whitehouse, all of New York. Jean is survived by daughters, Cindy Joy-McCoy and her husband Tom and Shelly Joy-Morgan and her husband Bud of Fresno; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Yost & Webb Funeral Home, 1002 "T" Street, Fresno, on Thursday, March 15, 2007, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held at Belmont Memorial Park on Friday, March 16, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to the California Armenian Home, P.O. Box 7877, Fresno, CA 93747 or Optimal Hospice, 6760 N. West Avenue, Suite 103, Fresno, CA 93711. YOST & WEBB FUNERAL HOME1002 "T" St. 237-4147www.YostandWebb.com

When I remember Jean, I remember her sparkle and humor, coming at a lightning pace, never a pause. Jean lives on in her daughters, that's for sure.

My deepest sympathy is with you and your family. I never know Aunt Jean very well but My Grandfather (Willys Loveless) would tell me a lot about her when I was growing up. He was very proud of her. Aunt Jean will be very missed. You are in our thoughts and Prayers at this time of sorrow.
