JOSEPH WOO Obituary

Joseph C. Woo, Jr., MD passed away peacefully, at the age of 93 to be with his beloved Mabel. They were married 70 years and were inseparable. Dr. Woo's accomplishments and contributions to this world are innumerable and unsurpassable. He was born in the Burnett Annex of Fresno Community Hospital and devoted his life to healing the ill as a physician for over 60 years in our community. This was not merely a career. It was his lifestyle and persona to be a dedicated, devoted, 200 percent physician. His beloved, avid reader chemist, Mabel, kept him on his toes. He was a walking computer genius of medical knowledge and "Dr. Fix it Dad and Grandpa." He was so resourceful he could fix nearly anything, from clogged household pipes to broken bodies, clogged coronary arteries and lots of skinned knees. After graduation from Fresno State College, George Washington University Medical School, completing his Internal Medicine residency at Valley Medical Center, and serving in the Air Force as a medical officer, Dr. Woo devoted his life service to God, his patients, family and friends. In addition to the thousands of patients he treated, he voluntarily started the first Hmong clinic in Fresno. He served God zestfully, faithfully, and diligently at the First Chinese Baptist Church since he was a Boy Scout. Just a few of those service hats included being church moderator, building committee chairman, pastoral search and relations chairman, plumber, painter and many more. His full biography can be read at https://ww.communitycarehealth.org/CMC/media/news.../fou-drwoohistory.pdf His calm, compassionate, understanding presence permeated his family life. His response to any family "mishaps" was always "That's Ok!" He was a "softie." The most intelligent dad and grandpa, he is the pillar of lifelong learning. His legacy resides in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will strive to carry his LIGHTNING FOR LEARNING and service. He is survived by his daughter, Caryn Woo Dean PharmD and husband David Dean PharmD, granddaughter, Katie Lai Miller MD and husband Josh Miller MBA, great grand children, Jacob and Naomi Miller; son, Joseph C. Woo III PharmD and wife Charlene Kono Woo PharmD, grandsons, Joseph Kono Woo BA, MFA, Collin Kono Woo BA; daughter, Cynthia Woo Wu RN, MSN, FNP and her husband Robert Wu, MD, and grandchildren, Jocelyn Wu, MD, and Jonathan Wu, LTJG, United States Navy. In Dr. Woo's memory, please have mercy for the sick and downtrodden, and advocate for the vulnerable. Thank you Right at Home, Hinds Hospice, and San Joaquin Garden care managers. The family is forever grateful for your dedicated, heartfelt, tender service. You are the limitless limelight of Florence Nightingale's lantern.

George and Cathy Milutinovich :we admired and respected Dr. and Mrs. Woo for all the years Dr. Woo treated our large family! It was especially fun to see them at our restaurant The Lime Lite when they enjoyed date night! We are happy they are together again in Heaven loving their Lord and each other! God Bless your family at this time, our love George and Cathy and family.

May his family and friends be lifted up through their times of sorrow and give thanks for his time with us. Dr. Woo was one of the scions of Fresno Community Hospital and 1st Chinese Baptist Church. A nice bio with photos of him and his wife, Mabel, is at https://www.communitycarehealth.org/CMC/media/news_images/2016/library/corporate/files/fou-drwoohistory.pdf

Caryn, My deep condolences to you and tour family on your Dad's passing, The times that I've run into your parents were a real enjoyable moment. They were both cordial and very kind. Glad to read about doing your part in supporting the Woo legacy and their successes in life. There is no doubt that there's a special seat next to your Mom in heaven. May God bless your lovely family. n
