Juanita Pugsley Obituary
November 27, 1933 - November 22, 2023
Fresno, California - Juanita May Pugsley, 89, of Fresno, CA, passed away on November 22, 2023. She was born Juanita Mann and was the daughter of Hazel and Frank Mann.
Juanita is survived by her son Timothy Phillip Pugsley, her daughter Susan Diane Pugsley Thompson, and her grandchildren Eric Borges, Jacob Borges, Ryan Pugsley, Lindsey Pugsley, Nicholas Pugsley, and William Pugsley, her great grandchildren London Borges, Maddox Borges, Chloe Borges, and Kaleb Borges, her sister Helen Bertram, and her brother Charles Mann. She was preceded in death by her son Thomas Patrick Pugsley, and her sisters Winona McDonald and Linda Adams.
Juanita attended Roosevelt High School and was part of the first class of RNs from Fresno City College, where she earned her Rehabilitation Specialist Degree.
She proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps directly out of high school, where she scored the highest possible score in the entire nation for prospective recruits. She demonstrated her unwavering dedication and commitment to her country. In addition, the US Marine Corps used her as a recruiting poster model while she was stationed in Hawaii.
Juanita's post-service career began at Leon S. Peters Rehabilitation Center, and she later played a vital role in the establishment of The San Joaquin Rehabilitation Hospital as one of its founding nurses. Her passion for helping others was evident throughout her career.
Outside of work, Juanita enjoyed various crafts and loved to play dress-up with her grandchildren. Juanita loved to garden and create clever and humorous yard art. Her creativity and love for her family brought joy to those around her.
Juanita Pugsley will be deeply missed by her loved ones and all those whose lives she touched. Her legacy of service, dedication, and love will continue to inspire those who knew her.
