Judith Johnson Obituary

Judith Marie (Lambur) Johnson
November 23, 1946 - August 29, 2022
Fresno, California - Judy Johnson was born to Robert and Esther Lambur on November 23, 1946 in Sheffield Lake Ohio, where they lived on Abbe Road just a short walk to Lake Erie. She spent her youth there enjoying activities by the lake. She attended Brookside High School and graduated in 1964. That summer she was selected as the first Queen of the city of Sheffield Lake, Ohio. She went on to attend Bowling Green State University in September 1964, age 17, where she met Harry Johnson. They married in 1966 and had 2 children, Jeff and Jamie, a boy and a girl. Her husband Harry's job in Management with Aetna took them from Dayton, Ohio, to Fort Smith, Arkansas, Lubbock, Texas, then finally settling in Fresno, California in 1978. Judy got her Undergraduate Degree at Fresno State University and later obtained her Masters Degree graduating in 1988, Summa Cum Laude, with Special Honors from the Psychology Department. Judy went on to teach Psychology classes at Fresno State University and Fresno City College, where she later helped run the Child Development Center. She really loved working with the children.
Judy retired in 2004 to spend time with Harry who retired in 2003. She loved to travel with her family and visited several places all over the USA. She and Harry loved their river cruise through Germany. Judy, Harry, and Jamie enjoyed a London Theater trip led by an FSU Professor. After that trip they continued on their own trip to Scotland and back to England off the coast of Devonshire. All three went on another trip to Scotland for Harry's ancestors and then Harry drove them through Northern Ireland, and then on to the Republic of Ireland where Judy traced her ancestors to Carrick-on-Suir, a town in County Tipperary Ireland as well as the town of Donard where her Redding family owned land. Tracing her family ancestry became a passion for Judy in retirement. The last trip together was a trip around Italy in 2019, where Judy got to see Rome, Florence, Siena, Pisa, Venice, Assisi, Lake Como, the Isle of Capri, and Pompei. Judy enjoyed doing many things, writing letters to the editor of the Fresno Bee became her way of speaking her mind on many hot topics in the news. She always got excited when her letters got printed. She loved reading murder mystery and other books. She enjoyed going to the Rogue Festival in the Tower District, musical shows at Roger Rocka's, and going to Renaissance Faires. She loved to bake and work in her garden. Judy was a kind and generous person who made friends everywhere she went and her smile was always bright.
Judy is survived by her husband Harry of 56 years, her son Jeff, daughter Jamie, her brother Bill Lambur in Bedford Texas, and her brother Rick Lambur in Amherst Ohio, and their children.
A Celebration of Life is being planned. If so inclined, donations may be made to the Fresno County Public Library, or Planned Parenthood. Judy's family would like to thank Bright Horizons Hospice for the compassionate care they provided, as she passed away peacefully August 29, 2022.

Judy had the best sense of humor and was not afraid to speak up. I will never forget her response when two girls tried to get in front of us in a bathroom line. She told them to get in the back of the line. They responded they just wanted to check their makeup and she said she didn't care about their makeup. She was my hero from that point on.

My mom was one of a kind. She was kind, compassionate, loving, giving, intelligent, inquisitive, artistic, unique, funny. To me she was so much more, she was my mother and my best friend.
When she left this Earth, I felt a piece of my soul go with her. There is an emptiness inside. Nothing will ever be as it was. I am very thankful to have had her as my mother. I will dearly miss the wonderful times we shared together. The times we would laugh and could not stop, we would laugh so long we would forget why we were even laughing.
I am eternally grateful that she let me be whoever I wanted to be. She taught me how to read and that has been so rewarding being able to either learn new things or simply escape to other worlds. Watching her create artistic things taught me how being creative was so amazing.
I am so glad she was such a big part of my life. I will miss you mom, forevermore...

Love,
Jamie

Harry, Jeff and Jamie,
So sad to hear of the passing of your wonderful wife/mother. May God wrap his loving arms around you and give you peace and comfort in this very sad time. I always wondered if the stars in heaven are really our loved ones lighting the way, and watching over us. May Judith's light shine brightly amongst the stars forever watching over you.

With sincere sympathy
