Dr. Thomas J. Firestone, age 73, of North Canton passed away peacefully at home on March 8, 2026. He was born October 31, 1952, in Montpelier, Ohio to the late John and F. Jean (Guilinger) Firestone.
Tom received his B.S. from Bowling Green State University and his M.D. from the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo in 1978. He practiced Family Medicine and then Emergency Medicine. Tom was an Emergency Room physician at Alliance Community Hospital until 1989 when he became the Emergency Room Director at ThedaClark Regional Medical Center (Neenah, WI) and Medical Director of ThedaStar Air Medical Program (Neenah, WI). His career brought him back to Ohio where he worked as the Regional Director of Akron/Canton for Kaiser Permanente. In 1999, Tom became the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Southern Illinois Healthcare (Carbondale, IL) where he then transitioned to the CEO position.
In 2009, Tom retired from healthcare and moved back to Ohio to be closer to family and friends. Tom enjoyed the game of golf and loved to play the piano. He was known for not only his classic music playing, but his salty pub songs. He was passionate about medicine and will be remembered for sharing his vast knowledge with others in the field or just beginning their careers.
Tom is survived by his wife of 33 years, Kara; brother Mike (Linda) Firestone of Michigan; and his beloved dog Hermey.
Cremation has taken place and a bash to celebrate Tom and his life will be held at a later date.
