It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerold Ray Firestone, or better known as "Punk" to many, left us peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the age of 85, surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO, on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 12 p.m., with visitation preceding the service at 11 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Harrisonville Animal Clinic.
Born on May 29, 1940, in Centropolis, KS, to Clarence and Mabel (Heilman) Firestone, Gerold was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many. Gerold graduated from Ottawa High School and dedicated over three decades of his life to KCP&L, where he worked as an electrical lineman. His passion for his work was evident not only in the pride he took in his job but also in his commitment to the IBEW Local 1464, where he served as a union steward. He was respected by his colleagues and known for his unwavering dedication.
Family was of utmost importance to Gerold. He married the love of his life, Sharon Hancock, on August 5, 1961, and together they built a joyful life surrounded by their children, Steve Firestone and Cindy Jones. As a devoted father, Gerold was ever-present in the lives of his children and grandchildren, coaching them in various sports, assisting with homework, and cheering them on through life's milestones. He took immense pride in his family, who were a source of endless joy and laughter.
Gerold was known for his kind heart and open spirit; he never knew a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand. His friends and family will fondly remember him as a man who arrived early to everything, always very early, just in case of a flat tire, a reminder of his thoughtful and prepared nature. In addition to his dedication to family, Gerold found joy in the great outdoors, relishing the time spent hunting and fishing. He had a true zest for life, embracing every moment with enthusiasm and sincerity.
Gerold was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carolyn Firestone; and a great-grandchild. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his son, Steve Firestone (Lisa); his daughter, Cindy Jones (Rich); his seven grandchildren, Kery (Scott), Kayla (Derek), Tyler, Holly (Tyler), Feryn (Tyler), Baylea (Cody), and Riley (Elizabeth); his 13 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Lynn Firestone (Janice), Denna Gilmore (Cecil), Darby Wiseman (Frank), and Randy Firestone (Linda). Punk leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support for those who knew him.
