Julia was born on July 17, 1921, in Racine, Wisconsin, to Arshag and Nuritza Margosian. She passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at the age of 88 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Julia attended Garfield Grammar School, and graduated from William Horlick High School in 1938 in Racine, Wisconsin. After high school she worked in manufacturing until they moved to California at the age of 23. She settled in Reedley, Ca. with her family in 1944. She married George Der Hagopian in 1948. Together they worked hard in their grocery business for 48 years. She was a fabulous cook and homemaker. Julia worked 20 years part-time at Christian Brothers Winery and she was a devoted member of St. Sahag Mesrob Armenian Church in Reedley and belonged to its Ladies Society.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband George.
She is survived by daughter, Georgette Karabian and her husband Russell of Fresno; son, Stephen Hagopian of Fresno; and daughter, Lisa Nesgis; grandchildren, Karen and Mathew Price, Michelle and Shawn Hannah, Kevin and Ulia Karabian, Juliane Nesgis, Kylie Nesgis, and Tyler Nesgis; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Emerson Hannah and Jonah and Riley Price; sister, Elizabeth Gengozian; and brother, Abe Margosian and his wife Barbara. She was blessed with many nieces, nephews, cousins and many life-long friends.
Visitation will be held at Cairns Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at 9:00 a.m.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Sahag Mesrob Armenian Church in Reedley on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. A Graveside Service follows the church service at Reedley Cemetery.
