Kathleen Bonilla Obituary

Kathleen Ann Bonilla

June 22, 1961 - September 7, 2024

Fresno, California - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, aunt, and sister, Kathleen Ann Bonilla (Bargas) on September 7, 2024, in Fresno, CA, following her courageous health journey.

Kathy was born in Merced, CA, to Angelina and Manuel Bargas on June 22, 1961. She graduated from Merced High School in 1979 and then St. Mary's College in 1983.

In her early professional career, she worked in broadcast journalism for local television stations KSEE 24 and KJEO (now KGPE) 47.

At Fresno City College, Kathy would bring her ethics, knowledge, and wit into the many lives of faculty and students who walked through the doors of Fresno City College, serving connected State Center Community College campuses and students for the last 32 years as the Public Information Officer.

Kathy is survived by her husband Jessie Bonilla, daughter Angelina, brother Anthony Bargas (Melissa), cousins, nephews, nieces, great nieces and nephews, and members of the Valle family. She is preceded in death by her father, Manuel Bargas, mother, Angelina Bargas, and son, Victor Manuel Bonilla.

Kathy will always be remembered for her love of movies, Star Wars, spending time with her family, making tamales, and the Los Angeles and Fresno City College Rams. She will be deeply missed.

Services will be held on September 27, 2024, at Our Lady of Victory, located at 2838 N West Avenue, in Fresno, CA. A rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. with a memorial mass at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at Fresno City College.

Kathy was my friend and sister. We met just as we were in our last year in college. Two young Latinas ready to take on the world of news media. We hit it off from day one at Fresno cable. We were roommates and shared so many memories both with family and friends. Many trips to Disneyland and who can forget the dancing at Wiliker´s . I remember her first date with Jess. I remember it was a date to the Merced Fair and she came home that night and told me "I´m going to marry that man". And like most things she made it happened. Angelina the day you were born was the best day of your Mom´s life, next to marrying your father. She lived you both with all her heart and being. Tony you were her brother and she lived you and especially enjoyed the political debates. Family was everything to Kathy. She never let anything or anyone stop her even when she needed to have a kidney transplant. She was strong and determined and smart! I still can´t believe my friend is gone, I sit and cry but some are happy tears from all the happy memories. The last thing I text Kathy was "Love You Always". I do Kathy love you always and thank God for bringing you into my life. Sarah
