Ken was born in Fresno, Ca. on September 27, 1940, and passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at the age of 69 "well-lived" years. Born to Masaru and Yukiko Doris Sakata, Ken graduated from Parker High School and attended California State University, Fresno, where he obtained his BA and MA degree. In 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Frances Kakutani, with whom they shared 46 years of marriage and a wonderful life together. Places of employment included Irwin Junior High School; Roosevelt High School and Fresno City College, where he taught vocational cabinetmaking for 22 years and retired from in 2003. In his retirement years, Ken loved playing golf, traveling with Frances and spending time with family. He was a member of SIRS and Fresno Nisei Golf Clubs, which he enjoyed very much. Preceding Ken in death was his father, Masaru Sakata; and brother Richard Sakata. Ken was a beloved husband, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. We are so blessed to have known him and will forever cherish our memories and times spent with Ken. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Saint Agnes Hospice and Right At Home for the care they provided to Ken and support they provided to the family. Mr Sakata was my all time favorite teacher. I was not the best student and quite frankly struggling in life and school. But learning industrial arts sparked a new interest in life. Mr Sakata suggested a vocational carpentry class. I attended. It changed my life....I met my wife there. In the years to come we built our own home. For the last almost 40 years I have enjoyed woodworking, as a hobby and sometimes as a source of income. Today attending the funeral was another blessing to me. Although I am sorry for his passing, through the love and words of his family, Mr Sakata is still teaching me lessons....

Francis, I am so sorry for the loss of Ken. He was well liked and will be remembered in our thoughts. I dropped by the funeral home for the viewing. I am sorry I missed seeing you there. Again, my condolences to you and your family. Your classmate and friend, Leon Hollmes

We were so sorry to hear about your loss. Living in the same neighborhood gave us the opportunity to have many outdoor conversations and you were able to watch our girls grow. Even after we moved we were able to see you two on your walks down Van Ness or a Costco outing. I will remember that smile Ken always had. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time.
