In Loving Memory of Hidetoshi Sakata April 18, 1972 – August 23, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, Toshi Sakata.
Toshi was an incredibly hard-working, strong-willed, and innately generous man. Unfortunately, his tough spirit outlasted his worn body. Although his passing was unexpected, we are grateful to God for the time we had with him following his major heart attack eight years ago.
Toshi was a kind and welcoming person, always ready to make others laugh and smile. He grew up in Pacoima alongside his two older brothers, Kimito and Hideto, and his younger sister, Tsubura (Caroline). He attended John H. Francis Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley. He also participated in a lot of sports such as football, baseball, and tennis; winning awards and even coaching!
As a chef, Toshi had a remarkable talent for understanding the art of cooking and the balance of flavors. While his primary work was in sushi, his curiosity and adventurous spirit led him to explore recipes from many different cultures. On occasion, he even created desserts, from Asian-style sponge cakes to his favorite, mango panna cotta. For those fortunate enough to taste his food, it was truly a gift.
This past year was a particularly meaningful one for Toshi. He began a new job that allowed him to thrive while staying closer to home. Though he had one day off each week, he dedicated it entirely to his family. So every Thursday, he, his wife, and his daughter would try new restaurants, visit arcades, or explore the city together. At home, he also cherished time with his two beloved dogs, Hunter & Bella, who recently brought even more joy to the family with the arrival of eight puppies. These simple yet joyful moments will always be treasured.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diana, his daughter, Alyssa, his stepson, Austin, and his family and friends who will continue to honor his legacy.
We love you, Toshi. Thank you for all the sweet memories. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Hidetoshi, please visit our floral store.
