Kevin Traeger Obituary

Kevin, our much beloved son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and special friend, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2007. He was a life long resident of Clovis, Ca., attended Cole Elementary and Clark Intermediate schools, and graduated with the Clovis West High School Class of 1980. His education continued at California State University, Fresno where he earned a BA degree in Journalism. Following graduation, he worked in the field of newspaper journalism in Prescott, Az., Santa Ynez, Ca., and Los Banos, Ca. Deciding that his occupational interests lay elsewhere, he chose to investigate the occupations of soils lab technician, USFS fire fighter, field surveying and construction, and retail sales. Kevin had many interests, and an insatiable passion for knowledge in the fields of science and nature, especially weather. He was a regular weatherwatcher reporter to the National Weather Station in Hanford, Ca. His interest in insects and plant life led him indirectly to membership in the Fresno Cactus and Succulent Society. His collection of succulents and cacti were impressive, several of his entries in the 2007 Fresno County Fair receiving top awards. His plant collection was exceeded only by his extensive library of science reference books and his collection of science-fiction novels. Throughout his life Kevin steadfastly refused to embrace the drug culture of his generation, a priceless and everlasting gift to his family. Kevin's ready smile and friendly greetings, his willingness to help others, his spontaneous and great sense of humor, his love of family, friends, and animals, and his honesty and work ethic are but a few of his admirable qualities that will be sorely missed. Kevin and his girlfriend of longstanding, Sandra Arie, were active members of Peace Lutheran Church in Fresno. Surviving are his parents, Les and Marcia Traeger; brother, Erik Traeger and his wife Suzanne; nephew, Tyce Traeger; several loving cousins, and his girlfriend of long standing, Sandra Arie. A Celebration of Life will be held at Peace Lutheran Church on Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to American Hearing Research Foundation, Menieres Disease Fund, 8 So. Michigan Ave., Ste. 814, Chicago, Il. 60603; Peace Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 4672 N. Cedar, Fresno, Ca. 93726; or to the donor's choice. BOICE FUNERAL HOME 308 Pollasky Ave. Clovis, Ca. Kevin was a kind hearted soul, always ready to greet you with a smile. Since I moved out of the neighborhood, I have only seen Kevin (& Sandra) a couple of times. I will miss those talks on the front lawn and seeing Kevin riding by my parent’s house on his bike. He was a good friend - not only to my brother Danny and I, but also to our parents. He will be missed. My thoughts and condolences are with Sandra and the Traeger family.

Dear Kevin, thanks for always being my friend all these 26 years. Your kindness and honesty will be missed. Although I haven't seen you in a while I think of you often and the fun times we had together in Clovis.

I met Kevin at Cole Elementary and later was a friend to him in many classes throughout Clark Intermediate and Clovis West High School. He was a tremendous track runner in those days. Kevin was full of energy and life. He never was mean nor cruel to others as is so common in the teenage years. I am so glad that Kevin was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. This affiliation suggests that he has made a personal commitment to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. I wish I could be there to pay my respect in person to his family and friends, but I now reside with my family in Southern California. We will miss Kevin, but there is great hope in knowing that we will see him and others in the future for Jesus Christ is the Resurrection and the Life and he who believes in Him will never die.

I had known Kevin since Kindergarten. We grew up together in the same neighborhood and attended Clovis Schools together until our graduation in 1980. A true friend, a kind heart, and a gentle soul. Kevin will be missed by all his former classmates. We will always remember him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time. Especially his brother Eric, Kevin was always so proud of him.

I knew Kevin for more than 20 years, and I can truly say that this was a man among men. He was always upbeat and positive, no matter what, and he was always someone who could be counted on to speak his mind. I have had no truer friend, and although heaven is a much happier place now, I will miss him more than words can express. Go with God, my brother, and we will meet one day again.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort. I met Kevin through Self Help for Hard of Hearing People. We will sincerely miss him!

Susan Coulter

I am Susan Coulter and have known Kevin for several years through Hearing Loss Association of America, Fresno Chapter. Kevin was a long standing member and rarely missed a meeting. Whenever we offered our members the chance to speak at a meeting to educate those present about hearing loss, Kevin always took the opportunity and educated many about his experience with Menieres Disease. We of HLAA are a family and we have lost a member of our family. My prayers are with all his family and friends. May the memories of Kevin always bring a smile to our hearts. Sincerely, Susan Coulter
