Lawrence Turnquist Obituary
May 5, 1938 - January 17, 2024
Mariposa, California - Lawrence Churchill Turnquist, a quiet man of few words, finished his journey on earth on Jan 17, 2024. He made a difference and helped many people along the way.
Larry attended Fresno State then served in the U.S. navy. He later started his career at Bank of America, followed by working at Grangnai Brothers Farm. He slowly started farming on his own, eventually acquiring 1,600 acres on the west side of Fresno County. He was the board president for Westlands Water District in the 90's. Larry courageously gave of himself, including going to Washington D.C to fight for farmers water rights Larry retired from his farm career working for Redfern farms in Dos Palos.
In spite of some great personal tragedies Larry persevered and picked himself up and started over and over again. He trudged on and never gave up. Larry was a gallant and true gentleman. He took commitment seriously and his love was mirrored in his two successful marriages.
His first wife Diane, passed in 1984. Larry and his second wife Patty enjoyed their retirement, living the good life in the rural area of Mariposa California.
Larry and Patty spent some of their happiest hours "banging boards" in their fixer up cabins in Big Creek and Alturas.
He is survived by his loving wife Patty, his sister Ruthie Pauff, niece Cathy Otte, and many friends, family, and admirers.
There will be a memorial luncheon on February 23, 2024 in Fresno, CA. Please contact [email protected] to confirm attendance.

Larry will be missed and remembered for his dignity, honesty and integrity. His life, work, and commitment to what is right are his legacy.

Dear Patty and family,
My husband and I lived by Larry in Tranquillity for many years. They were the loveliest of neighbors.
I loved seeing him and his two dogs as he would sit on his steps in the evening to ponder the days events. We always felt the utmost respect for him.
You met a wonderful life partner.
You are in prayers and thoughts. May the enduring Presence of the Creator surround you all.
Lifting Larry into the Christ presence of Peace.
