Edith Lomax Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center - Murray on Feb. 23, 2026.
The beautiful Edith Ray Lomax, age 92, passed away on February 21, 2026, at her home in Kaysville, Utah, surrounded by loved ones.

Edith was born on July 3, 1933, on her grandparents' farm in Burley, Idaho. She spent her childhood on several farms, developing a deep love for hard work, family, and the outdoors. Among her happiest memories were the years spent in California at the Mariposa Dairy, where she and her brothers, Lyle and Neal, filled their days exploring the farm and enjoying country life.

Edith moved to Portland, Oregon, during high school, where she met the love of her life, Charles D. Lomax (Chuck), in Sunday School. They later began dating after his sophomore year of college. During this time, Edith had saved enough to attend BYU for a semester. She loved her time there and cherished the one semester she could afford, embracing a freedom she had never known and later saying, "I enjoyed every minute of it." Following that semester, she returned to full-time work but remained on the marching team as a Cougarette.

On September 10, 1953, Edith and Chuck were married in the Logan Utah Temple. Their sixty-five years of marriage were defined by profound, equal devotion and love. During Chuck's service in the Air Force, they lived in several states before finally settling in Orange County, California, where they spent close to four decades raising their children. Their children often refer to their upbringing as "Camelot," a testament to the love and warmth Edith brought to their family.

Edith had a voracious appetite for learning, and she shared her curiosity with each of her children. She often took us, or even dragged us, to museums, exposing us to art, history, music, and world events. Even at the breakfast table, learning was constant; we memorized the capitals of countries around the world and shared interesting facts. With Dad's career as a pilot for American Airlines, she took advantage of traveling to different places, continually teaching us along the way. She learned Hebrew, loved reading, and took online courses simply for the joy of learning. True to her adventurous spirit, she took surfing lessons in her fifties.

Most importantly, she taught us about faith. Edith was the most spiritual, faithful, and temperate woman we have ever known, filled with wisdom and grace. We never knew her to be sad, worried, or upset. She gave every care and concern to her Heavenly Father, which allowed her to live with contentment and joy. Even in her final days, in the midst of so much pain, her prayers were full of gratitude for all her blessings.

Edith dedicated more than twenty-two years to serving in the Los Angeles and Redlands Temples. She also devoted much of her time to family history by researching and finding names for family, friends, and ward members so their temple work could be completed. Throughout her life, she held many callings that kept her actively involved in service. Even in her eighties, she was called to serve as Relief Society President once again and taught gospel doctrine.

Her superpower was her love. No matter your choices, path, or beliefs, she never judged anyone; every one of her grandchildren knew this. So many of them, teenagers, college students, young adults, even married children, wanted to spend time with her, just "hanging out with Grandma." She was so loved that we had to gently remind them she was older and needed rest. Every grandchild cherished their time with her. As one grandchild said, "We always had the most engaging conversations."

It brings the family great comfort to know that Mom and Dad are together again. In her final days, it was a blessing and an honor for each of her children to care for her, a small way to give back to the remarkable mom we love and adore. Mom, we miss you so much already.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Lomax. She is survived by her children: Randy (Annette), Kristy (Kevin), Mark (Jeanette), Kendall (Dennis), Heather (Kent), Stuart, Rachel (Matt), Elise (Kyle), and Autumn (Jim); thirty-nine grandchildren; sixty-five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Pioneer Ward, 1449 Thoroughbred Drive, Kaysville, Utah 84037. A viewing for family and friends will take place prior from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at the church. A private interment will take place in California.
