Freddie Louise Dickey

Born on October 6, 1934 in South Gate, California, Freddie Louise Cook was the only child of Lewis and Leatha Cook. Freddie grew up in Maywood, California. She attended and graduated from Huntington Park High School in Huntington Park, California. After graduating from high school, Freddie furthered her education at East Los Angeles College and then USC.

When Freddie was 15 years old, she was baptized a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This led to a lifetime of faith and service to others. She had many opportunities in the church to serve as a teacher, mentor and positive influence to many. One of her favorite opportunities was serving in the youth program of the church. She was a Christ-like example for many of the youth she taught. Many of these young people stayed in contact with Freddie long after they were grown, due to the positive impact she had on their lives. She had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and she shared that by the way she lived.

Freddie had many talents. One of them included being an accomplished accordion player. She also became an accordion teacher. It was her love of the accordion that led her to meet her sweet companion, Everett. Playing the accordion was a talent they both loved and shared, participating in many duets together and playing professionally.

On June 10, 1956, Freddie married Everett Warren Dickey. This was the beginning of 70 wonderful years together.

Freddie then went on to complete college and obtain a Bachelor's degree from the College of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, where Everett was stationed in the Navy. She also earned a teaching credential and pursued a career in education. After returning to Los Angeles, Freddie became a second grade school teacher. She worked hard and supported Everett while he attended USC Law School. After leaving Los Angeles, they lived briefly in Huntington Park, California and then in Costa Mesa, California. In 1962, while living in Costa Mesa, they welcomed their first daughter, Jennifer Eileen Dickey.

Shortly after, in 1964, Everett and Freddie made their move to a beautiful little beach town, San Clemente, California.

In 1966, they welcomed their second daughter, Amanda Maureen Dickey.

It was San Clemente where they would raise their children and spend the majority of their lives.

Freddie quickly fell in love with the beach! Many of her days were spent with her daughters and her friends sunbathing, swimming, and even riding waves to shore on her raft! Many evenings were spent at the beach around bonfires, roasting hot dogs and s'mores! Freddie loved to have fun, and she appreciated the beauty of living near the ocean. In the early '70s the family purchased a sailboat and had a lot of fun sailing out of Dana Point Harbor and often to Catalina Island.

Some of Freddie's favorite things in life were seashells, chocolate, the color purple, animals, and fun vacations.

She enjoyed many trips with the family including houseboating, trips to Zion National Park, and cruises with Everett. She also loved traveling with her dear friends. Some of her favorite vacation spots were Tahiti, Hawaii, or anywhere tropical!

While she enjoyed all of these fun things in her life, what meant the most to her were her faith, her family and her friends.

In 2017, Freddie and Everett relocated to South Jordan, Utah to be closer to family. Even though she spent most of her life being able to look out her windows at the ocean, she quickly learned to love and appreciate the beauty of the Utah mountains. In Utah she loved spending time with her extended family, including grandchildren and their spouses and great grandchildren. If there was something fun going on, she wanted to be part of it!

In 2022, she went on to her next adventure at Ashford Assisted Living. Here she enjoyed a beautiful view of the Wasatch Mountains and the Draper Temple from her windows. She quickly became a favorite there and formed many friendships with residents and those who assisted in her care.

Freddie had a beautiful full life and will be missed every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her. She will be remembered for her amazing smile, her positive attitude, her sense of humor, and the love and kindness she showed to everyone.

Freddie is survived by her husband, Everett Warren Dickey.

Her daughters: Jennifer Eileen Trotter (Jay), Amanda Maureen Murray (Tim)

Five grandchildren: Zachary Timothy Murray, Justin Matthew Murray (McCall), Emily Renae Burleson (Christian), Alyssa Anne Cottle (Jaden), Jay Braden Trotter

Eight great-grandchildren: Landon James Murray (10), Paisley Jane Murray (4), Hunter Matthew Murray (2), Everett James Burleson (5), Beau Loren Burleson (2), Jett Jaden Cottle (4), Colter Williams Cottle (2), Remi Jay Cottle (1).

Freddie was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Raymond Cook and Leatha Scott Cook.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Freddie's honor on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Mortuary – Riverton, located at 3688 West 12600 South, Riverton, Utah 84065

Services will also be available to watch electronically on the Larkin Mortuary website.

Private family graveside service to be held at Herriman City Cemetery.
